September 3, 2026 – Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School held its opening ceremony this morning to officially welcome the newest cohort of graduate students. The incoming class gathered at the Nanyan campus to mark the start of their studies.
President Gong Gao presided over the ceremony, joined by Executive Vice President and Dean of the Shenzhen Graduate School Zhang Jin, and Olympic shooting gold medalist Zhang Shan.
The program opened with student performances—including choir, dance, and spoken word—followed by a campus welcome video featuring messages from faculty and returning students. In a ceremonial moment ahead of Teachers’ Day, first-year students presented flowers to faculty representatives as a gesture of appreciation. The new cohort then received their Peking University badges in a formal pinning ceremony, symbolizing both the university’s heritage and the responsibilities of graduate study.

That evening, the school hosted its annual “First Run of the Semester” on the campus track. Students and faculty ran together in a spirited kickoff to the academic year. Following the run, participants gathered for a collective singing of patriotic and university anthems, and a drone display lit up the night sky over the campus. The event closed with group photos and a casual reception, where runners collected commemorative gifts and refreshments.
The opening day activities brought together the community in a shared celebration of new beginnings, blending tradition, energy, and a sense of collective purpose.
